Groop – Voodoo Sitar

Groop “Voodoo Sitar” 7″ on Ace of Disks

Groop only put out a few 45s and one was on Stark Reality. This track features some psyched-out sitar work, a big analogue groove and some buried ethereal vocals. Too bad these guys didn’t put out more stuff.

Boards of Canada – Sixtyniner

Boards of Canada “Sixtyniner” from the Twoism EP on Warp

BoC are like modern-day Pink Floyd with hip-hop drums. The Hobo calls them “perfect stoner music”. I concur. Maybe you’ll think posting something obvious like this might be a waste of your time but you might change your mind when the drums hit. They are large.

Three Sinister Syllables – Doom Tribute

Pro Celebrity Golf and Jay Glaze “Doom Tribute/Track 3″ from Three Sinister Syllables on Chopped Herring

2004 cut-and-paste bonanza of Euro-breaks, regular breaks and fantastic TV and movie snippets. I still listen to this one regularly. It is in the upper echelon of mixes. The near-8-minute tribute to MF Doom features many filthy nuggets. Never pressed on vinyl to my knowledge, cd only.
